GB 29921-2013, China food safety national standard for maximum levels of pathogens in foods was published by the National Health and Family Planning of People’s Republic of China (NFHPC) on 26 December 2014. It was implemented on 1 July 2014.
GB 29921-2013 specified the species, maximum levels (MLs) and testing methods of 5 kinds of pathogens in 11 categories of foods. The food categories are only applicable to GB 29921-2013. The pathogens limited by GB 29921-2013 are Salmonella, Listeria monocytogenes, Escherichia coli O157:H7, Staphylococcus aureus and Vibrio parahaemolyticus.
GB 29921-2013 applies to prepackaged food except canned food which should be satisfied with the requirements of commercial sterilization. This national standard will be very helpful to control pathogens pollution in foods and prevent foodborne disease.
