European Commission Published a New Catalogue of Nanomaterials Used in Cosmetics

from CIRS by

On Jul.12 2017, the European Commission released the first version of the catalogue of nanomaterials in cosmetics on the EU market.

The catalogue, which indicates the categories of cosmetic products and foreseeable exposure conditions, covers nanomaterials used as colourants, preservatives and UV-filters. Currently, the catalogue contains 43 substances and will be updated regularly.

Operators in EU, such as manufacturers and importers, must notify the cosmetic products notification portal (CPNP), an online notification system created for the implementation of Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 on cosmetic products, of cosmetic products and whether they contain nanomaterials.

In the future, the Commission will continue working with EU countries and industry to constantly monitor and improve the quality of the data on nanomaterials given by operators.
