The 2nd Summit Meeting on Chemical Regulations in Asia Pacific (SMCR 2016)—Japan Summit was Successfully Held in Tokyo

On 10 Nov. 2016, the “2 nd Summit Meeting on Chemical Regulations in Asia Pacific (SMCR)-Japan Summit”, which is jointly hosted by Chemical Inspection and Regulation Service Limited (CIRS) and Japan Environmental Management Association for Industry (JEMAI), was grandly held in Tokyo. Officers and experts from Tianjin Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau (Tianjin CIQ), National Registration Center for Chemicals (NRCC), Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) and CIRS gave presentations respectively. It’s also a good opportunity for participants to communicate with them about the management policies of China chemical regulations and the management experience. More than 50 representatives from over 40 enterprises including Toyota Tsusho, Sumitomo, Mitsui Chemicals and AGC attended the summit.

During the summit, Mr. Liu Jun from Tianjin CIQ gave a speech on the supervision status of chemical importation and exportation as well as the management policies in Tianjin Port. He particularly introduced the on-site inspection situation of chemicals in Tianjin Port. Mr. Chen Jinhe from NRCC interpreted the registration of hazardous chemicals and the implementation guidelines. At last, Mr. Wang Qiwei from CIRS gave the case study on the notification of new chemical substance and the introduction of GHS implementation in China. He mainly introduced the amendments to the guidance documents for the notification of new chemical substance in China. During the panel discussion, participants showed their great interests in the hazardous chemicals registration, guidance document of catalog of hazardous che micals, inspection on special chemicals during import & export, the storage of hazardous chemicals as well as the amendments to the guidance documents of new chemical substances and actively asked questions.

The 2 nd Summit Meeting on Chemical Regulations in Asia Pacific (SMCR)-Japan Summit won a good reputation from all the participants and all the participants also thought highly of the expertise of all the speakers. In the future, based on the concept of connecting Japanese chemical enterprises and the competent authorities in China, the Summit Meeting on Chemical Regulations in Asia Pacific (SMCR)-Japan Summit will continue to provide valuable information, trying to achieve chemical safety as well as sustainable development in Asia Pacific.
